In the year 2044, an impossible city floats in the Sea of Japan; the last refuge of the Japanese people and, perhaps, of mankind as a whole. Entrusted with protecting the metropolis from monsters born of disaster, the Inspectors of the Human Calamity Response Bureau desperately fights to keep humanity’s dwindling population alive. But as each new day passes, and tragedy builds upon tragedy, the human race has to contend with a single, irrefutable fact: soon, the world will end.
While my prior works have been more mainstream in the domain of western literature, my current project, Soon, the World Will End, draws a heavier inspiration from Japanese works. In particular, Yoshihiro Togashi’s YuYu Hakusho, Tite Kubo’s Bleach, and Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen. Building off of a framework I used in a previous story, the story features two separate protagonists of opposing positions and experiences, with them taking separate turns in the spotlight.
I plan to release the story as a web serial with a single chapter coming out every week. I have the overall structure for the entire story laid out from beginning to end, with a substantial amount of time invested into the world-building and characters. I currently don’t have a timeframe for how long the story is expected to last, but if I reach the end of narrative map I have in my head, I expect at least two years of storytelling.
While I’ll begin the story with around a two month buffer of chapters, there may come times when releases slow down as I work on other manuscripts and projects, some of which may also appear on the Epics. However, if only for my own sense of completion, I intend to continue Soon, the World Will End until it’s done.
I’ll also be posting this story on Spacebattles, Wattpad, and Royal Road for those that wish to enjoy this story among those communities.
